350 Mass Action Endorses Climate Champion Jesse Mermell for Congress

350 Mass Action Becomes First Massachusetts Environmental Advocacy Organization to Endorse in MA-04 Race

BROOKLINE – Jesse Mermell was today endorsed by 350 Mass Action, the first Massachusetts environmental advocacy organization to support a candidate in the crowded race for the Fourth Congressional District. 350 Mass Action highlighted Mermell’s record of leading on local climate change solutions on the Brookline Select Board, her extensive platform for protecting the environment and the strength of her grassroots coalition as driving factors.

350 Mass Action is a statewide volunteer network working to address the escalating climate crisis by eliminating greenhouse gas emissions and moving our world to a 100 percent clean, sustainable, and just energy future. Since its founding in 2016, its primary focus has been electing progressive climate champions and eliminating the influence of fossil fuel special interests over the political process.

“Jesse Mermell is the bold, progressive climate champion we need to represent the Fourth District in Congress at this critical time,” said Cory Alperstein, a Board Member of 350 Mass Action. “She has the experience, the tenacity and the broad-based support needed to be a bold champion for environmental justice and a Green New Deal. Jesse is calling for transformative change and knows how to work with others to make it happen.”

“This was a difficult choice for 350 Mass Action, as there are several candidates whose questionnaires and public statements indicate strong support for 350 Mass Action’s key issues of fighting climate change and supporting an inclusive approach to the changes that need to be made to end global warming,” said Mark Dyen, Co-Coordinator, 350 Mass Action. “But Jesse Mermell has been running an aggressive, effective campaign, and has the background and broad support needed to win this race and to represent the Fourth District in the upcoming Congress. We are confident both in Jesse’s stand on our key issues, but also on her ability to deliver once she gets to Washington.”

“I’m proud to receive the endorsement of 350 Mass Action and I’m committed to being the climate champion the people of the Fourth District deserve when I’m in Congress,” said Mermell. “We’re well past climate change – we’re in a climate crisis. If we don’t act immediately and with solutions at the scale science demands, all of our communities, especially the most vulnerable, are at risk and the cost will be borne by future generations. I look forward to working with 350 Mass Action in Congress to pass a Green New Deal, hold Big Oil accountable and save our planet for future generations.”

350 Mass Action is the latest progressive advocacy organization to endorse Mermell, along with Planned Parenthood, NARAL Pro-Choice America, the National Women’s Political Caucus, the Coalition for Social Justice and more. She has also earned endorsements from more than 100 current and former elected officials, including Attorney General Maura Healey and Congresswoman Ayanna Pressley, and 21 unions representing more than 269,000 workers.

Election Day is September 1st but voters can cast their ballot by mail now or vote early beginning on August 22nd.
